1. Buy Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs
   Compact fluorescent light bulbs use 75% less energy than standard incandescent bulbs and last up to 10 times longer. That also means they produce 75% less heat and can cut down on the amount of money you spend powering air conditioning units.
2. Unplug Electronic Devices
   We all know that turning off computers, printers and other electronics can save energy. But did you know that even when they are off they can still suck energy from outlets? Getting employees to unplug their power strips before they go home at night could save 20% on your monthly bill.
3. Buy the “Energy Star” Label
   If you’re going to be purchasing new equipment or appliances, one way to ensure they are energy efficient is to look for the Energy Star label. Last year alone, Americans, with the help of Energy Star, saved enough energy to power 10 million homes and avoid greenhouse gas emissions from 12 million cars - all while saving $6 billion, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.

Small business owners should consider doing their own analysis of what they’re currently paying in energy bills, what energy-efficient upgrades will cost and how much they can save in the long run. It may take some time and research, but your wallet as well as the environment will thank you.
