Well it’s official. We’re in a recession, and just in time for the holidays! So if you’re feeling a little down this holiday season, perk up and send your nearest and dearest some “credit crunch Christmas cards.”

Artist Andrew Shaffer, through his company Order of St. Nick, has created a new collection of Christmas cards wishing people a “Great Depression and a Happy New Year.” They’re definitely depressing, but in a funny way, so it all works out.

The cards display vintage, Depression-era photos coupled with humorous, present-day captions. For example, one card shows a man in tattered clothes sitting hunched over on a doorstep. The caption reads, “I just sold my spleen to pay my mortgage this month.” One of the bigger hits in the collection shows a man standing in the middle of a dust storm holding on to his hat. The caption on the front reads, “Hold on to your hat…” The inside reads, “…the worst is yet to come.”

Our countries economic condition really isn’t a laughing matter, but when tough situations come along I find it helps to laugh at them. Fortunately I’m not the only one or this might be a little awkward.

Have a great weekend!
