Do You Email Under the Influence? Try ‘Mail Goggles’
Posted by Megan Dorn under Random thoughts
Google you’ve done it again!
Google’s new test feature, “Mail Goggles,” part of the free Gmail service, can save those who send the occasional (or frequent) tipsy (or inebriated) email a whole lot of regret and an even bigger headache in the morning.
Picture this. You’re out with your friends having a great time. One drink turns into two, and then two drinks turns into…numbers aren’t important here. The point is we’ve all said or done stupid things under the influence of alcohol. Google’s just lending a hand and saving us the embarrassment of writing something that we’re going to kick ourselves for the next day.
Here’s how it works. You first have to activate the goggles. Click “Settings” at the top right of the page. Then go to the “Labs” section and just take it from there. You can set the goggles to only be active on certain days, during certain times of day (weekend nights for example). When the goggles are active, they will require you to solve a few easy math problems before you hit “send.” Basically Google’s logic is that if you’re sober enough to solve the problems, then you’re sober enough to deal with the repercussions of your actions. I wish they could do that for text messaging too!
So what does this have to do with small business or entrepreneurship? Probably nothing, but it’s Friday and I figured you guys could use a break from all the doom and gloom of financial meltdown. Have a great weekend!
